Medical spas are a fast-growing phenomenon. They offer not only traditional spa services, such as facials and massages, but also medical treatments, such as botox injections, pain management and spider vein surgery.

This type of hybrid spa is a cross between a medical office and a day spa, where doctors and massage therapists often work side-by-side. Because of the wide range of services that medical spas offer, there is no one specific definition. But the International Spa Association does provide an overview definition of a medical spa: "an institution whose primary purpose is to provide comprehensive medical and wellness care in an environment which integrates spa services as well as conventional and complementary therapies and treatments."
