Neil Hutcher, MD, FACS is a highly respected leader in the advancement of bariatric surgery and serves on the staff of Commonwealth Surgeons, Ltd. He began practicing medicine in Richmond in 1973 and has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Marys Hospital and as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at both the Medical College of Virginia and McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Hutcher's clinical expertise is in bariatric surgery as well as general and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Hutcher received his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed a residency in general surgery and specialty fellowship training in transplant surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Hutcher is widely recognized as a leader in weight loss surgery and has served as president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
