Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, is a type of cosmetic procedure in which the surgeon removes fatty deposits from beneath the patient's skin. Although the best way to remain slim is to eat a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise, many people turn to liposuction when efforts to lose excess body fat through diet and exercise are unsuccessful. In tumescent liposuction, a popular liposuction technique, a surgeon injects a local anesthetic underneath the skin along with a chemical that restricts blood vessels. These injections soften the fatty tissues, which the surgeon then suctions out through a cannula (long, hollow needle) inserted through small incisions in the skin. Additional types of liposuction in Rockland County include abdominal etching, in which excess fat is removed from the abdominal area, resulting in a more athletic appearance, and laser-assisted liposuction, in which the fat is heated with a laser, making it easier for the surgeon to suction it out. It is important for each patient to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which liposuction options will best meet his or her individual treatment needs.
It is important to note that liposuction is not a way to overcome obesity. While many patients who undergo liposuction in Rockland County have experienced dramatic weight loss, liposuction is more for "fine tuning" the body. Other procedures patients who have lost a lot of weight seek out include arm lift and butt implants.
Patients traveling to Rockland County for liposuction treatment will find many options for leisure and entertainment prior to and following their surgery. Rockland County's close proximity to New York City makes it ideal for a day trip to the Big Apple to visit the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty or a Broadway play. Rockland County itself offers abundant parklands, including Bear Mountain State Park, which features the Trailside Museum and Zoo, and the Nyack Beach State Park on the banks of the Hudson River. Visitors interested in local history and culture may want to check out Stony Point Battlefield, the site of skirmishes during the Revolutionary War, and Hopper House Art Center, the boyhood home of the famous painter Edward Hopper, which is now a bustling center of creativity.
Besides liposuction, patients in Rockland County often receive additional cosmetic enhancement treatments. Rockland County plastic surgeons offer a wide variety of procedures for the breast, face and body. Many breast enhancement, breast lift, breast reduction, face lift, nose reconstruction and tummy tuck Rockland County patients have successfully undergone their chosen procedure.
