J. Peter Rubin, MD, received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and served his residency at Harvard University Medical School. He is an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He specializes in body contouring procedures and is the founder of Life After Weight Loss Program at UPMC. Dr. Rubin is a former president of the International Fat Applied Technology Society (IFATS) and he also serves on the American Society of Plastic Surgery's Bariatric Task Force. He has authored numerous articles on body contouring procedures following bariatric surgery. Dr. Rubin is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award honoring young scientists and engineers.
Kenneth C. Shestak, MD, received his medical degree at the distinguished Tufts University School of Medicine with residency training at the UCLA Medical Center, the Tufts New England Medical Center and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. Dr. Shestak is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has authored more than 60 articles, 19 book chapters and a well-known textbook, "Re-operative Plastic Surgery of the Breast." His cosmetic practice focuses on procedures on the face, including non-surgical rejuvenation with Botox and filler injections; breast augmentation and breast uplifts; and body contouring procedures, such as abdominoplasty and liposuction.
Carolyn De La Cruz, MD, received her medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed plastic surgery residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She holds advanced training in post-cancer restorative procedures and performs an array of leading-edge breast reconstruction techniques, including free tissue transfer, which involves transferring tissue from the abdomen to create new, natural-looking breasts. Dr. De La Cruz is a member of several professional organizations and is a fellowship-trained micro-vascular reconstructive surgeon.
Michael Gimbel, MD, earned his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his plastic surgery residency and advanced fellowship training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Gimbel specializes in breast restoration procedures, including implants, microsurgery and oncoplastic breast reconstruction. He is a practicing staff member at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and UPMC Shadyside. Dr. Gimbel is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Greater Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Vu T. Nguyen, MD, completed his general and plastic surgery residency, in addition to a two-year research fellowship, at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then completed a clinical fellowship in breast and aesthetic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in microsurgical breast reconstruction, general adult reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Nguyen has been appointed Section Chief of Plastic Surgery at the VA-Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Associate Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and Director of Medical Student Education. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, with appointments at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, the VA-Pittsburgh Health Care System, UPMC Presbyterian and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
James M. Russavage, MD, DMD, received his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also served his plastic surgery residency. Dr. Russavage specializes in trauma reconstruction and wound healing, as well as aesthetic and breast surgery procedures.
