More About Joseph Mlakar, MD, FACS

Joseph Mlakar, MD, FACS, completed undergraduate and medical degrees at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He continued his education with a combined general surgery / plastic surgery residency at Michigan State University and Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He also completed a burn surgery and critical care fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, an affiliate hospital of the University of Southern California.

Dr. Mlakar has served as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital. Dr. Mlakar is a member of numerous prestigious medical organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Medical Association, the American Burn Association, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Burn Association, the International Society for Burn Injury, the American Society or Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Midwest Association of Plastic Surgeons and the Singleton Surgical Society. He also serves on the Ethics and Steering Committee of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.
