More About James C. Grotting, MD, FACS

Dr. Grotting earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, where he was recognized with the Medical School Achievement award and the Outstanding Young Investigator award. He went on to complete a surgery residency at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals and a plastic surgery residency at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Grotting is the author of several medical textbooks, including the two-volume book, Reoperative Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, a popular resource for young plastic surgeons preparing for their oral board examinations. He has won several awards, including the Robert H. Ivy Society of Plastic Surgeons award. In addition to his practice, Dr. Grotting is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Currently, he is an active member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Henry N. Harkins Surgical Society, the Alabama Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Harry J. Buncke Society and the Plastic Surgery Research council. He is the Vice President of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Treasurer of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation and a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. Dr. Grotting has been invited to speak at many national and international medical symposia, including events sponsored by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is an active advisory board member and volunteer for Operation Smile International, an organization providing free surgical services for children with facial deformities.
