Andrew J.L. Gear, MD, is a highly skilled plastic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in craniofacial surgery, plastic surgery and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Gear studied under a variety of pioneers in plastic surgery, including liposuction expert Dr. James Smith, body contouring surgeon Dr. Doug Hendricks, and renowned laser and body contouring specialists Dr. Michael Bruck and Dr. Bruce Katz. Outside of his practice, Dr. Gear regularly donates his time and services to non-profit organizations, including the Kluge Rehabilitation Center, the Charlottesville Free Clinic and the Madison House Crisis Hotline. He has also performed pro-bono plastic surgery and general surgery procedures for patients in China, Kenya, Guatemala and Peru.
Dr. Gear is an expert in face, body and breast cosmetic procedures, including facelift, tummy tuck, liposuction, Brazilian butt lift, breast augmentation and minimally invasive breast reduction. In addition, he performs SmartLipo and Lipostructure, one of the latest methods of fat transfer. Using advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technologies, Dr. Gear is able to carefully sculpt the body to create beautiful proportions. Andrew J.L. Gear, MD, completed an undergraduate degree and a medical degree at the University of Virginia. He continued his education with a general surgery internship and residency, as well as a plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He also performed a craniofacial fellowship at Gillette Children's Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and an aesthetic fellowship at Marina Plastic Surgery in Marina Del Rey, California. Dr. Gear has served as an Associate Editor for the Dannemiller Memorial Foundation's "The Scientific Basis of Wound Closure," and has written several published journal articles and book chapters. He also has served as an instructor to medical students. Dr. Gear is a member of several medical organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and the Christian Medical and Dental Society.
