Dr. Anous has a special focus on tummy tuck surgery and extensively plans each procedure. By perfecting the planning phase, Dr. Anous is able to complete an abdominoplasty in roughly 90 minutes versus the standard three to four hours. A shorter procedure is key, because the less time a patient spends under anesthesia, the safer the procedure will be, he says. Dr. Anous takes 20 minutes in the planning process to determine exactly where his incisions will be placed. My lines are drawn with precision. If I know from doing my lines where my stitches are going to go, I dont have to imagine in surgery how to make the points fall together, he says. In a traditional tummy tuck procedure, lines are drawn to mark the lower incision and then often the decision on how much skin to remove and where to place the upper incision occurs during the surgery itself. All my lines are drawn ahead of time so there is no more guess work during surgery. It results in a more aggressive abdominoplasty with a VERY PRECISE OUTCOME, says Dr. Anous, adding that his approach also helps to ensure proper symmetry on both sides. Minimizing the appearance of scars is also a key consideration in a tummy tuck procedure. Incisions should be placed precisely between the junction of the abdomen and the thigh so you do not see them, he says.

Maher Anous, MD, FACS, was educated in a French Jesuit school before traveling to the United States to pursue his surgical training. His impressive educational resume includes training programs at Waterburys St. Marys hospital (Yale affiliate) for a general surgery residency, New York Citys Sloan-Kettering Memorial hospital for cancer surgery training, Seattles Harborview Medical Center for a burn fellowship, Allentowns Lehigh Valley General hospital for a plastic surgery residency, Houstons Mecom Institute for a microsurgery fellowship, and Paris Clinique Belvedere for a cranio-facial surgery fellowship.

In addition to serving as lead surgeon for his own private practice (La Provence), Dr. Anous served as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine from 1989 1995.
