Rhinoplasty surgery, or nose reshaping surgery, is performed for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Ontario patients seek cosmetic nose surgery to eliminate bumps or humps from their nose, change the size of their nose, achieve a straighter, more symmetrical nose or adjust the size and position of the nostrils. Reconstructive nose surgery is performed on patients whose nose has a defect or has been damaged due to trauma. In many cases, a nose defect, such as a deviated septum, can impair the patient's ability to breathe properly. Top Ontario nose surgeons can repair such flaws and allow patients to experience unrestricted breathing.
There are two main types of nose surgery: open and closed. Open rhinoplasty is the more complex of the two. During open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions in the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils. During closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nose. In both cases, the Ontario rhinoplasty surgeon exposes the nose's underlying bone and cartilage and reshapes it in order to improve its function or aesthetic profile. Patients receiving rhinoplasty often undergo other procedures simultaneously, such as chin augmentation, face lift or cheek implant surgery, in order to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing facial appearance.
Rhinoplasty is typically done on an outpatient basis at a hospital or plastic surgery suite. When choosing an Ontario rhinoplasty surgeon, it's best to decide upfront whether you prefer a hospital or office setting. The best Ontario plastic surgeons operate in their own surgical suites but also maintain privileges at local hospitals, where they may perform more complex procedures. If you choose to have your procedure done at the surgeon's office, ask for a tour of the facilities to determine your comfort level within the environment and with the staff. Consider whether you were treated with compassion and attentiveness by the surgeon and his or her medical team. Also, be sure to ask about any special amenities, such as a day spa, travel services and postoperative recovery arrangements. Finally, be sure to ask whether the suite is certified by the Canadian Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Care Facilities (CAAACF).
Most plastic surgery procedures are not covered by insurance. However, rhinoplasty may be covered by insurance if it's performed to repair damage or correct a defect. For example, if the patient's nose has been injured in an automobile accident, surgery to correct the nose may be covered by his or her health insurance carrier. In addition, surgery to repair a deviated septum may also be covered.
One of Ontario's main attractions is the city of Toronto. Patients visiting Ontario for rhinoplasty or other plastic surgery will surely want to experience Canada's most populous city.
